Isolation Companion # 1 - Mixtape

Hello, this is Dylan. I started a blog on Blogspot.com in the year 2020. And you are looking at it. Fascinating stuff.

I used to find all sorts of incredible information about music and movies from old nerds with Blogspots back when I was in high school, and this Corona quarantine situation really has the same vibe as a permanent Sunday afternoon before school on Monday.

So I'm in that depressed little emo boy high school mindset, except now I'm the old nerd with a blog. And you're a depressed high schooler. The tables have turned.

This is the first iteration of my Isolation Companion mixes, consisting of songs that have kept me company and made me feel like a human being while I wear sweatpants, watch TV and talk to myself. Gonna try and do this once a week, with songs that I've been jamming heavily in that particular week.

If anyone wants to talk about music, or anything at all, by all means comment on this and I will probably talk to you. I have nothing else to do! It's insane.

Hope everyone is doing well in their isolation chambers.

Here is the mix.

  1. Hi Dylan,

Do you listen to any Latin or Spanish artists? My favorite Latin group is Pacifika and their album Asuncion, and my favorite Spanish artist is Rosalía and her album Los Ángeles.

I appreciate you sharing thoughts and music.

    Peace be with you,
    Michael

    1. Hey Michael,

      Thanks for reading and listening!

I like a lot of Spanish and Latin music. Some of my favorite punk bands are Los Llamarada, from Mexico, and Rata Negra, from Spain.

I'm not familiar with the artists you mentioned, I'll check them out!

    1. Hey, thanks for listening!

I love that Seam album, yeah. One of my favorites. Got my vinyl copy of it at a little record store in Malmo, Sweden a few years back. Oddly enough there are a lot of great record stores in that town.

  5. hi dylan! it’s jayson, you might remember me from back when we used to travel the world playing shows together..feels like a lifetime ago, so i understand if you don’t. anyway i really like what you’re doing here with the blog, i think it’s a great idea and i’m looking forward to more!

have you listened to the new strokes album? i think it’s called “hot trash & recycled riffs”. you sound pretty bored so maybe check it out.

    hope you’re doing alright!

  6. hi Dylan,

i missed your Boise concert this year on Jan 13 at the Neurolux and my 21st birthday was exactly on Feb 13 lmao, I'm hoping I can see you soon.

I mainly play bass, but I'm learning guitar and piano. Im hugely inspired by the music you make and end up having some level of Cloud Nothings inspiration in a lot of my songs. but I'm still struggling as a writer, as most artists tend to be. do you have any advice that might get the ball rolling for me?

    cheers from Idaho!

  8. Dylan, thank you for this blog. You and I met briefly at Deep Vellum books in Dallas not long ago, and you all played a great show later that evening. This blog is a great thing you are doing. I remember how much I learned from reading Jeffrey Eaton's (the singer for Modern Life is War) blogspot back in my early 20s. He listed the books he was reading and music he was jamming, and I checked it daily for the new art I could seek out and purchase. I can't even be sure I would have majored in English and become a professor had he not made that blog.

Best to you, and thanks for making isolation more tolerable for everyone with his mix.
